We have received several parent and employee concerns about the the rumored TikTok threat for public schools. This post is from TikTok that is circulating across the country. There is a national investigation regarding this post. The TikTok post is vague and not directed at a specific school. Either a person or group is supposedly threatening violence at a school or schools in the United States. The TikTok post is being investigated by US Law Enforcement officials at all levels and has been found NOT to be credible at this time. There have been no known specific threats made regarding any RSU 16 schools.
We appreciate when our parents and guardians become aware of possible concerns about your children’s safety and that you ask questions. Student and staff safety is our number one priority. The best help we have continues to be the eyes and ears of our students who contact trusted adults when they witness unsafe situations or hear about potentially unsafe situations.
I am saddened that this social media post has caused so much fear and anxiety for all schools and families across the country, and I hope the information that authorities have identified as not credible is helpful to you. School will be open today, but as always, if you do not feel safe sending your students to school please keep them home.
