From the Principal - Poland Regional High School
Cari Medd, High School Principal
207-998-5400 ext 129
I have been a member of Knight Nation since I joined the faculty of Poland Regional High School in 1999, the year we first opened our doors. I became principal of the school in 2008 and continue to love this job today. I grew up just down the road in the Oxford Hills, graduated from Wesleyan University in 1990. My first teaching job was at Leavitt Area High school after earning a master’s degree in Teaching and Learning at Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1992. I became certified to be an administrator when I completed my Educational Leadership Master’s Degree at the University of Southern Maine in 1999. I am incredibly proud to serve the students of Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland and come to work every day dedicated to improving our school and meeting the needs of all of our students.
Poland Regional High School opened its doors in 1999 as the first new high school in Maine in 20 years. A lot has changed since then, but what remains is our dedication to our mission:
• To teach all students to use their minds well and to cultivate their particular talents
• To establish a culture of respect, responsibility, service and courage
• To demand excellence and to foster lifelong learning in a safe, welcoming environment
We work to make this mission a reality for every student who comes through our door. At the heart of our work is Roundtable, our advisory program which pairs each student with one adult for four years, ensuring that every student is well known by at least one adult in the building.
Our dedication to proficiency based education allows us to focus our work with students on their individual growth towards learning the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in life after high school.
Every student leaves PRHS with an individual post-secondary plan helping them transition to college, the military, the workforce or other opportunities. Our guidance counseling staff is highly experienced and effective at helping students identify and achieve their goals.
Our school culture is dedicated to students feeling safe and taking responsibility for their actions and their future. We use Restorative Practices to encourage students to learn from their mistakes and grow into responsible community citizens. Our Student Judiciary Board involves our students in the disciplinary process, encouraging their peers to make amends to the community when school rules are violated.
The teachers and staff members of PRHS are proud to serve our students and be members of the RSU 16 community. Go Knights!
