Dear Poland Regional High School students and families,

I am writing with tremendous excitement in joining the Poland Regional High School community as the new principal.

Throughout the interview process for the PRHS principal position, I noticed three themes emerge:

  • Great pride in the excellent academic rigor of PRHS teaching and learning.
  • A strong commitment to relationships between students - and their families - with teachers and staff.
  • Authentic support for a positive school culture fostered through extra-curricular sports and activities.

I look forward to working with you all to continue the PRHS tradition of excellence and to enrich each of these areas. As a former classroom teacher and now as an administrator, I work to help my students find success in the classroom and connect the skills they learn at school to their lives in the greater community. I believe deeply that every student can take on the most challenging learning, grow as a person, and find success in the classroom and beyond.

A little bit about me - I have lived for twenty years just down the road in Freeport. My home with my wife, Dana, is full of activity as we have three sons - a recent high school graduate, a high school sophomore, and a 7th grader - an old Golden Retriever, a young black Lab, a cat named Bert, and eight chickens….who live out in a coop the kids and I built a few years ago. We enjoy skiing through the woods of Pineland, riding the trails of Bradbury, and finding new places to swim on warm afternoons.

During the interview process, I reflected on my ongoing learning and continued growth as an educator and a person. One education thinker who I often come back to is Ron Berger of EL Education and his book A Culture of Quality, A Reflection on Practice. Berger shares a light-hearted idea that may offer just a bit of reassurance about what high school can be all about:

“Imagine a school in which to be cool, to fit in and be regarded as popular, you have to do quality work and treat others well.”

Berger’s words connect with me. I very much look forward to doing our very best teaching and learning and creating a supportive and positive PRHS school community together in the 2022-23 school year, and many more to come.

I hope to have an opportunity to meet as many students and families as possible before school starts. If you would like to connect this summer, please reach out to me via email or phone: eanderson@rsu16.org or (207) 998-5400 x129.

All the best,
