How does a student see a School Counselor?

How can we support parents?
- Helping to handle social or emotional concerns you have about your child
- Family difficulties or concerns that affect your child at school
- Referrals for community resources
- Helping your child to be on time to school every day
- Discussing concerns about your child’s academic achievement
We provide:
- Classroom lessons teaching social skills, how to take care of strong feelings, growth mindset, etc…
- Small group counseling
- Short-term individual counseling
- Consultation with parents and teachers
- Community resource referrals (including longer term therapy services)

About Mrs. Pook:
Hi! My name is Papawadee Yooman. I know you are probably thinking, “what kind of name is that?” If you don’t know how to say it, no need to panic, everyone calls me “Mrs. Pook”.
I’ve been a School Social Worker at PCS since August 2022. I was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. I moved to Miami, Florida in 2007 and graduated with my MSW from Florida International University in 2011. I moved to Maine in 2012. I have been providing social work services to children and families in Maine since then.
How does a student see a Social Worker?
- Students who qualify for social work services according to their IEP/504.
- Social Worker will coordinate with a School counselor to support PCS students as needed or when the School Counselor is unavailable.
What does a Social Worker do?
- Provide direct services - utilize therapeutic interventions in individual/group sessions to support students according to their IEP/504.
- Provide consultations to the IEP/504 team to support student’s needs academically, socially, and emotionally
- Attend IEP meetings to discuss student needs and progress
- Community resource referrals as needed.
- Collaborate with the RSU 16 Social Work/School Counseling team
