Mrs. Higg’s & Ms. Rines’ Role with Students
We address students’ academic, career, and social/emotional needs through a comprehensive school counseling program that is delivered via classroom instruction, individual and group counseling.
We deliver classroom lessons using The Second Step Curriculum that promotes school success, school connectedness, and a safe and respectful school climate through Growth Mindset, Goal Setting, Emotion Management, Empathy, Kindness, and Problem-Solving.
We support students who are facing challenges such as the death of a loved one/pet, family transitions, friendship issues, being new to Poland etc.
We celebrate students’ successes.
We expose students to self-regulatory skills (such as breathing exercises, physical movement, journaling, and meditating etc.) which enhances their ability to focus, identify feelings, and release stress.
Mrs. Higg’s & Ms. Rines’ Role with Families and the Community
We maintain confidentiality with all families and students. Confidentiality will be broken if people express they are having feelings of harming themselves or others. We are mandated reporters.
We serve as consultants to school staff, parents, and the greater community.
We work collaboratively with all Poland Community School staff, parents, and the greater community to ensure all people feel safe, valued, and respected.
