What do you do in IT?

We are often asked “What do you do in IT?”

I recently heard a keynote speaker, Joe Sanfelippo, who said “When people don’t know what you do, they make up what you do.”

The District IT Department handles a wide variety of tasks in addition to supporting users and devices. This is a (not all inclusive) list of some of what we do on a daily basis:

  1. Install, set up, maintain and repair all district computers, chromebooks and iPads
  2. Up to date inventory of all devices in the district
  3. Maintain wired and wireless networks in each school plus Central office and Adult Ed
  4. Support all users and all departments in the district; administrators, teachers, staff and students
  5. Develop the district technology budget in line with the District Technology Plan
  6. Maintain software contracts and licensing
  7. Manage technology replacement cycles
  8. Manage the district Google Apps for Education domain including email for all employees and students in grades 5-12 and chrome device management
  9. Maintain Jamf, our mobile device management system for iPads and MacBook Airs
  10. System Administration for Infinite Campus, our student information system
  11. School Messenger, our emergency messenger system
  12. Manage district cell phone contract
  13. Manage security cameras and electronic key card system
