6th Grade Placement

As you may be aware, the decision regarding the placement of 6th-grade students, whether to keep them in the elementary school or move them to the middle school, is currently under consideration by the School Board.

The Futures Task Force, consisting of individuals with diverse perspectives and experiences, encountered challenges in reaching a consensus regarding their recommendation to the School Board. In a non-binding informational poll, the option of relocating 6th grade to the middle school garnered 4 "yes" votes and 17 "no" votes, reflecting the complexity of the issue and the various viewpoints.

In an effort to facilitate discussion, the Steering Committee has prepared a handout. This document outlines the challenges that we would need to address and overcome if the decision is made to move 6th grade, all while acknowledging the inherent advantages and disadvantages associated with such a move.

We recognize that this is an important decision that affects our students, parents, and the broader community. We are committed to approaching this matter with care and empathy, considering the best interests of our students and the future of our educational system.

Your input and feedback on this matter are highly valued as we move forward in this decision-making process. We hope you can join the Community Forum: October 19, 8:00-9:30AM and 6:00 - 7:30PM at PRHS/WMS.

All information is on the Futures website:https://www.rsu16.org/about/futures-task-force in a sub-section for the Steering Committee.
