Steering Committee Meeting Summary

Meeting Date: November 6

The Steering Committee will provide leadership and momentum to the Board during their deliberation to a final decision. 
Today the Steering Committee discussed:

  • A School Board email group will be available, so people wanting to email the School Board do not have to type in 15 email addresses. 
  • All community members and staff are encouraged to attend the November 13 Board Workshop at 5:30PM in the Cafeteria to hear a presentation from EMC. Then the regularly scheduled Board meeting will begin at 6:30PM in the Cafeteria.
  • During the Steering Committee presentation at the Nov 13 Board meeting, topics to be shared will be ATeam feedback, updated scenario costs, teacher feedback, update on our overarching issues and the agenda for the Community Meeting on November 14 at 6PM for questions and answers
  • Brainstormed ideas for content to be included for the postal mailing to be sent to printing on November 15.
  • RSU 16 submitted grant applications for the Maine Department of Education's School Revolving Renovation Fund (SRRF) program on October 31st, with the assistance of EMC. SRRF guidelines state that notifications of awards will begin February 1, 2024. At that time RSU 16 will know exactly what funds, if any, will be allocated to the district. Whatever funds are awarded will be handled in the manner of 60% grant, and 40% loan. The remaining 40% will need to be funded locally by RSU 16. Given that our budget process starts in December, the Steering Committee suggested constructing the budget without any allocation of SRRF funds initially, and subsequently making adjustments once the February update is available.
